The white laying hen is the kind of hen you keep especially when you're looking for higher egg production. Its lower feed consumption, as it is lighter, is therefore of economic importance to the producer. She can produce up to 300 eggs a year.
Despite its large number of quality, large-calibre eggs, it is not easily accustomed to human contact, and panics easily at the slightest stress factor. With its predominant crest, it needs to be kept in a well-heated environment for the winter. A modest installation will not be enough to keep her comfortable for the cold season. As the white hen is very light, she tends to perch high up, so a higher fence is required.
