Magnesium is very important for the function of cells, nerves, muscle, bones and the heart. Situations that may cause the a horses body to loose magnesium would be a poor diet, stomach ulcers or the use of diuretics for a sporting event.
Supplementing with magnesium may also help calm the mind of an excitable horse. Some horses with certain metabolic or circulation issues showing as “Neck Cresting” may also benefit from extra magnesium in the diet.
